Hobbs 100% Wool 108'' WLBY - BY THE INCH

Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 100% Wool Batting has become one of our most sought after battings due to its soft and luxurious feel and the way it brings out a quilter’s piecing and stitching. It needles wonderfully, maintains loft and has exceptional resilience.

Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 100% Wool Batting is a lightweight, breathable batting that breathes naturally and is comfortable for use in all climates, even hot and humid climates!

Hobbs Heirloom® Wool Batting is made of the finest superwashed wool in the world – this superwashing process successfully smooths the scales on the wool fibers, making it pleasant to the touch and less likely to shrink.

This product, while lightweight, is also strong and resists bearding and migration.

And, it is one of the most popular battings for use in ‘show quilts’ due to its wonderful affect on a quilter’s piecing and stitching, and because the wool doesn’t have a memory for creases, meaning quilts made with it will hang beautifully with nary a crease in sight!

We suggest washing items made with Hobbs Heirloom® Wool Batting by hand, in cool water, and laying them out flat to dry. If you prefer machine washing, items made with this batting may be machine-washed – you should use a gentle cycle and cold/cool water and ensure there’s no heavy agitation or spin during the wash cycle. Be especially cautious with front-loading washers as the intense spin cycle on these machines can be very hard on all elements of your quilts. You may start the drying process of items made with this batting in a cool/air-fluff dryer for 5-10 minutes, however, we recommend you then lay the item flat to complete the drying process.

***NEVER use high heat or steam with projects made with wool as it is very likely this will cause the wool to be felted, resulting in a dense, stiff batting that not only won’t drape well, this could cause bearding (bearding: the term used to describe batting poking through the fabric, generally in the stitch lines).***

Hobbs Heirloom® Wool Batting should be paired with medium or dark fabrics – if paired with with white or light-colored fabrics, natural wool could slightly darken the fabrics. We recommend quilters test this wool batting with their chosen fabric(s) to see if ‘darkening’ will be an issue. Often it’s not an issue, but it’s always best to test it to be safe!

This batting may be stitched up to 4″ apart, and it is machine washable (once inside a quilt), with shrinkage of 3-5% expected.

We recommend quilters spend time learning about Hobbs Heirloom® Wool Batting before using it on a project – making samples using this batting to see how it needles, both by hand and by machine, and how it launders, provides an opportunity to see if this batting can deliver the desired results.

Pre-washing is not recommended for this or any of our other quality batting products.
