Builder Skills - Knitting Series (6 hour course)
CLASS #1 - LET’S PLAY A GAME! - July 28

Must have knowledge of knitting basics

No homework to prepare for this class - just show up
MATERIALS: (Kit will be available to purchase for 10% off list price)
Worsted weight yarn/US size 7 or 8 knitting needles (Kit runs $15-30 depending on needle choice)
OUTLINE:
What is random knitting?
Why use random knitting?
How do you do random knitting?
Show a variety of textured stitch samples
Use patterns that have similar or same multiples of stitches
Use either dice or numbers in a bag
Make it into a game!
You can even have your kids roll the dice or draw the numbers for you, then make a scarf or other item for them.
Cast on and do a few rows of garter stitch to start
Draw number/roll dice and start the first section
Determine the number of inches or rows to work
When finished, knit a few rows of garter stitch to separate the new section
Repeat for the next stitch pattern
Show examples of finished projects using random knitting

CLASS #2 - LET’S ADD VARIETY! - Aug 4th (Yarn only Kit is $11)
*Must have knowledge of knitting basics
* No homework to prepare for class - just show up
MATERIALS: Kits will be available for 10% discount on day of class (Yarn only Kit is $11 / optional needles run apx $10-20)
6 different colors of worsted weight yarn (good time to use up some scrap yarns)
US size 7 or 8 knitting needles (or size commensurate with your yarn)
2 dice

In this method we use multiple colors of yarn to add variety
More to determine this time (roll dice for number of inches, yarn color, stitch
pattern, etc.)

*Must have knowledge of knitting basics
* No homework needed to prepare for this class
MATERIALS:
Worsted weight cotton yarn (Cotton Supreme DK - $10)
US size 6 knitting needles (or size commensurate with your yarn)
Graph paper
OUTLINE:
What is random knitting?
Why use random knitting?
Spell names, write messages, poems, stories
How to do random knitting?
Hand out list of letters with numbers
Discuss spacing of knits & purls
One plain row in between each row
Take up where you left off with unfinished letters on next RS row
Use a yarn over for a zero when using numbers
Practice writing the same thing as a whole class (i.e. spell out “knitting”)
Discuss using the graph paper
Each one practice writing their own name
Discuss possibilities of projects
